The Simbaz base is currently on the outskirts of Kikuyu about 15km from Nairobi City centre. All of the guys live in Kinjah’s house and it is a testament to his passion and generosity that the guys manage to sustain themselves. The buildings are tin structures with basic facilities.
The main focus of the Simbaz Trust, besides the development and education of its crop of young riders, is to buy a piece of land that is owned by the Trust, which will ensure the survival of the project into the future. The current very small plot where all the guys live is rented and highly suitable to rent rises that the Trust simply cannot afford.
The land that we are looking to buy would cost approximately $20,000 and this would give us enough space to build a small accommodation block, ablution unit and store rooms. We also plan to develop a properly equipped bike mechanics workshop where young athletes will be trained to maintain bikes and develop life skills that will allow them to stand on their own two feet. The new plot would also provide a section of land for the riders to grow their own crop and become increasingly sustainable.
